Pick-ups (also referred to as "scrimmages" or "scrims") are open to all skill levels, and the aim is for people to share, learn and teach.
  • Be mindful that slap shots are allowed, as well as stick lifts.
  • No high sticks — let's try to keep stick height below the waist.

We'd like to thank MYLEC for donating equipment and training aids for our pick-ups and skill clinics so we reach more women and grow, develop, and diversify the game.

DO I NEED ANY EQUIPMENT? No equipment is required beyond a stick and eye protection; but in the interest of safety, we recommend wearing gloves and shin guards, teeth/head protection at your own discretion. Helmets and gloves are not required but strongly recommended!

CAN I BORROW EQUIPMENT: Yes! Our goal is to get everyone playing. Pls. contact us in advance and we’ll try to hook you up.

I’M NEW TO THE GAME, CAN I STILL PLAY? Yes and yesssss. If you can run, you can play. Disclaimer: Chasing after an orange ball is highly addictive and you may become obsessed, so don’t say we didn’t warn you :)  Our community is super welcoming and whether you are new or experienced, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to have the ball. We’re here to get outside, run around, have fun, and maybe learn a thing or two. Emphasis on FUN. Period.

CAN I BRING SOMEONE? We love when members bring a plus 1 (or more), but pls. send us a note in advance so we know who’s attending. (Our events are open to females, transgender & non-binary players of all skill levels.)

WHEN DO I FILL OUT MY COVID ATTESTATION FORM? We’ll send this out electronically the morning of and you complete the form before arrival.

DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER? Yes, all players must read, understand, and sign the waiver in order to participate.

I HAVE EQUIPMENT I’D LIKE TO DONATE:  Amazing... tell us more!  Our goal is to make it so everyone can play. We have some extra equipment donated by MYLEC and other allies but we're always accepting donations to help get more women into the game. Please contact us if you or anyone you know is interested in donating equipment or if you are a retailer/manufacturer who'd like to partner with us.

DO YOU PLAY WITH GOALIES: It’s a pick up game so sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t. It depends on availability. If we don’t have goalies we use a variety of net-setups-designed-for-nogoalies instead, which are also fun.  For our clinics we use a combination of bullseye targets, shooter tutors, and (when available) goalies, depending on the type of session. The best way to ensure we have goalies is to volunteer to strap on the pads and play and/or to help us find more players willing to play goalie. And, for anyone interested but not quite ready to jump right in, we’re happy to arrange a goalie learning clinic for you. We hear having balls shot at you is actually quite fun and satisfying.  If you’re interested, please reach out.

DO YOU ALWAYS PLAY AT THE SAME LOCATION? No; we play in various locations in NYC. Keep an eye out for the location of each specific event before you sign up.

DO SESSIONS EVER GET CANCELLED? We try to confirm sessions are running at end of the week but a session may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather or last minute drop outs, which are out of our control.
  • In case of inclement weather, we strive to cancel no later than 9am day of (sometimes sooner depending on forecasts).
  • If you can no longer make a session we ask that you contact us directly, asap; multiple drop outs may result in a session cancellation and we prefer to notify players sooner rather than later whenever possible, so they can make other plans. In short: If you can no longer make it, don’t sweat it— but pls. notify us ASAP!
