Pick-ups (also referred to as "scrimmages" or "scrims") are open to all skill levels, and the aim is for people to share, learn and teach. No equipment is required beyond a stick and eye protection; but in the interest of safety, we recommend wearing gloves and shin guards, teeth/head protection at your own discretion. Helmets are not required but strongly recommended!
Need to borrow equipment? Contact us and we'll try to hook you up--our goal is make sure EVERYONE can play.
Be mindful that slap shots are allowed, as well as stick lifts.
No high sticks — let's try to keep stick height below the waist.
Absolutely no body checking - no exceptions.
For more info pls. read our FAQS page or contact us.

Tournaments
Fall 2023
Hock-away Beach Women’s Tournament is a celebration of all the women in our community (past and present) whose strength, determination, and passion continue to redefine what it means to play ball hockey in NYC. All proceeds from the tournament, as well as all WBHNYC sanctioned events, go towards growing the women's game.
Our tournament takes place annually in September on an outdoor rink between Beach 109th Street & Shore Front Parkway, right next to the boardwalk and beach.
The competition is open to all skill levels and we warmly welcome beginners. So, grab your stick, slather on some sunscreen and come join us at Rockaway Beach for some hockey and fun in the sun!
